Kathleen Van Brempt is a member of the European Parliament for Vooruit and Vice-President of the Group of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament (S&D). As Vice-President Kathleen Van Brempt is responsible for International Trade, Development, Enlargement and International Climate Diplomacy. She is a full member and vice chair of the International Trade (INTA) Committee and a substitute member in the Transport (TRAN) Committee.

In 2025, Kathleen Van Brempt also became full member of the Special Committee on the European Democracy Shield (EUDS). Before being elected as a member of the European Parliament, Kathleen Van Brempt was the Belgian Secretary of State for Labor Organization and Welfare at work (2003-2004) and Flemish Minister of Mobility, Social Economy and Equal Opportunities (2004 – 2009). Currently, she is also a member of the city council of her hometown, Antwerp.
